]]> When people talk about a new year, there is often an assumption that it automatically comes with excitement, clarity, and fresh motivation. But the truth is, a new year does not arrive the same way for everyone.

For some, 2026 feels like the beginning of something new, hopeful, and refreshing. For others, it feels like a continuation of the previous year. The same goals, the same responsibilities, the same unanswered questions. And for some people, the year hasn’t even started emotionally. They are still processing what last year took from them.

All of these experiences are valid.

A new year carries different meanings for people at different points in their lives. Some step into it with confidence, others with caution, and many with mixed emotions, hope and fear existing side by side.

What I have come to understand is that life does not reset simply because the calendar changes. Growth does not happen on command, and healing cannot be rushed. Sometimes the bravest thing a person can do at the start of a new year is simply keep going.

One thing, however, remains universal: the days continue. Morning comes whether we are ready or not. Time moves forward, offering us something precious: another opportunity to try again, to do better, or simply to show up.

For me, 2026 is not about pressure or perfection. It is not about grand resolutions or unrealistic expectations. It represents intention: choosing to be present, choosing to grow at my own pace, and choosing to make the most of each day as it comes.

Some days, maximizing the opportunity of a new morning will look like progress and productivity. Other days, it may look like rest, reflection, or learning. Both matter.

As we move through 2026, perhaps the question is not “What should I become this year?” but “How can I live each day with purpose, no matter my season?”

Because whether 2026 feels like a fresh start, a continuation, or a mix of emotions, one thing is certain: we are still here. And as long as each new morning arrives, there is still room for growth, meaning, and hope.

]]> Meet Olamide Akinyemi Olanipekun – A Passionate Pediatric Nurse

Hello, thank you for having me. I’m Olamide Akinyemi Olanipekun. As a pediatric nurse, my role entails nursing. Well, if I say nursing, it will be a tautology, so I will rather say caring for children from birth to 18 years, assessing their health needs and ensuring they are met, providing support and comfort to children and their families, escalating their health needs to appropriate authorities, advocating for children as well as protecting them from harm and abuse. 

My Inspiration: The Journey to Pediatric Nursing

My inspiration actually came from someone I regard as my role model, Mrs. Toyin Onigbanjo; she owns August Secrets, a leading nutrition company for children in Africa. Encountering her was a Kairos moment for me. It was a season in my life where I was trusting God to tell me the specific specialty He wants me to do in the nursing profession, and it happened that she was a guest speaker in a session of DDK’s Acceleration Intensive Course where she spoke passionately about what she does, and in that moment God spoke to me and even took me back to the beginning of my journey as a nurse, and I realized I had actually always worked with children, and the same moment God told me the school I would attend for His will to be accomplished, and yeah, that’s how I found myself here, loving and nursing children with the whole of my heart. 

The Most Rewarding Aspect of Pediatric Nursing

Nursing children to health and having them reunite with their families after a period of hospitalization. Parents are also appreciative of the services I render, which makes it rewarding. 

Challenges in Pediatric Nursing

That would probably be caring for difficult patients and difficult families, and that’s where teamwork with my other colleagues comes in; with their help, we are all able to navigate whatever difficulties we have with the patient and their families. Aside from that, I really do enjoy working in my role. 

Parenting and Nurturing: The Foundation of a Child’s Development

Why the First Five Years Matter

The first five years in a child’s life are considered the most crucial years. A child’s brain is like the empty pages of a book, and it’s whatever you fill it with that it will eventually contain. We don’t say, Oh, those initial years they are still little and know nothing. No, from the moment they are born, parenting and nurturing begin, and we have to do it with so much intention, knowing fully well that in the long run whatever we have put in develops. 

The Balance Between Nurturing and Discipline

Nurturing and discipline go hand in hand; I like to always liken discipline to discipleship. You are under authority and learning from a superior person. It is a child that we love that we also discipline. God loves us, and He disciplines us, yet still nurtures us, making sure that our needs are met. It’s the same we do for our children as earthly parents. I really do not believe there should be any struggle with both, and if there is, it means something is missing and a proper understanding of both terms should be established. 

We have several examples around us, and I am certain that if anyone looks around, they will find them too. Recently, I was reflecting on how Daddy and Mummy Mike Bamiloye successfully raised godly children—an outstanding example of well-nurtured children. I, myself, am a living example. The Word of God instructs us to train our children in the way they should go, and when they grow, they will not depart from it. By God’s grace, we will do our part and trust Him to always do His.

Advancing Child Development in Africa

I personally believe a solid and well-structured child social service will improve the quality of lives of children in Africa. Many children suffer from abuse and harm; their rights are not being upheld, and it is not the right thing. 

Children should be cared for from a holistic standpoint, not just as a minority. They are minors, but actually our priority.

Advice for Aspiring Pediatric Nurses and Healthcare Professionals

Passion and hard work are all I encourage. If you are not passionate, you won’t enjoy the job, but without hard work as well, you won’t grow at the job.

As we approach 2025, it’s a perfect time to pause and reflect on the journey we have taken over the past year. Last night, I found myself sitting quietly, reflecting on the year gone by. When I began recounting the moments of 2024 my wins, my blessings, and the miracles along the way the list was so enormous that I couldn’t help but pause in awe. Truly, the faithfulness of God is undeniable.

From gifts that came in cash and kind, to open doors I never anticipated, and scholarship opportunities that aligned perfectly with my dreams 2024 was a year of overflowing grace. And then, there was that moment: when God overturned what could have been a fatal accident. The weight of His mercy left me speechless, reminding me of how fickle life is and how he jealously watches over me.

It’s these moments, both big and small, that compel me to write about the importance of gratitude. Gratitude isn’t something to save for the highlights of the year, it should be a practice, we must inculcate into our daily lives.

Gratitude, when practiced consistently, transforms the way we see the world. It’s in the intentional habit of looking back and saying, “Thank you.” It’s in recognizing that every win, no matter how small, matters. The more I reflected, the more I realized how even the challenges of 2024 carried blessings.

Let me ask you: What are the moments you’re most thankful for this year? What victories seen or unseen did you experience? Pause for a moment and take stock. Write them down, one by one. You’ll be amazed at how much you’ve been given.

As you step into 2025, I encourage you to make gratitude a frequent part of your routine. Let it be a daily rhythm, a melody that plays softly in the background of your life.

Begin each day by asking, “What am I thankful for today?” Let your mornings be filled with hope and expectation. At midday, take a moment to reflect on what’s going right. And as the day winds down, recount the blessings you experienced even if they seem small. Over time, this frequency of reflection will open your eyes to the miracles happening all around you.

If 2024 taught me anything, it’s that God’s faithfulness is not seasonal it’s steadfast. And as I set my goals for 2025, I do so with a heart full of gratitude for the lessons learned and the grace that carried me through.

This new year, I’m challenging myself to be more intentional about expressing gratitude not just for the victories but also for the journey. Will you join me? Let’s make 2025 a year marked by gratitude, purpose, and unwavering trust.

Career preparedness is about more than acquiring skills; it includes building adaptability, self-confidence, and a sense of purpose.

As young people learn to navigate career choices, they need support in identifying areas where they can thrive and experience growth. Yet, for many young people, this journey is hampered by societal pressures and limited access to career guidance resources.
